The best little zoo in the world
It’s easy to smile when you visit The Best Little Zoo in the World, every animal has a story that warms your heart. The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center continues with its legacy as a sanctuary for over 150 native animals. It is the oldest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, and education facility in Belize, all the animals are either rescued, orphaned, rehabilitated or confiscated from people that tried to keep them as pets.
The best part about the Zoo is that is perfectly situated at Mile 29 on the George Price highway, approximately 45 minutes from the Belize International Airport. It is one of those “on-the-way” stops that you cannot miss when traveling south or west by land.
The Belize Zoo opens its doors to the public Monday to Saturday from 8:30 in the morning until 5 in the evening with the last admission being at 4:00pm, on Sundays from 8:30 to 4:30 with the last admission at 3:30pm. Entrance fee for adults is BZ$40 and for children 3-12 years BZ$10/International visitors.
The grounds are easily accessible by persons with physical disabilities offering wheelchair-friendly pathways.
It’s more fun to visit in the mornings as that is when the animals are at their most active before the tropical heat kicks in.
Join us in Belize, a birding destination and a country of adventures.
